Custom List Enrichment allows teams to take advantage of SalesIntel's deep enrichment services to append and update contact and company information without a direct integration to a CRM. These lists might include booth attendees from a conference; webinar signups; leads from a partner; or even data from a homegrown CRM.
Getting Ready
Before getting started, it is important to have a list of the right size and format. Supported list sizes vary by your role in your SalesIntel account:
| Supported Record Count (Rows) | Supported Field Count (Columns) | |
| Admins | 1,000,000 | 100 |
| Users | 10,000 | 100 |
Start with a csv file with the records to be enhanced. SalesIntel uses multiple fields to match your data to our database. The more fields you have mapped, the more matches can be made, and the more up-to-date your resulting data will be.
The following fields are used in the matching process:
- Companies: name, website, country, LinkedIn URL, HQ Phone (some fields are used in pairs to ensure uniqueness)
- Contacts: name, email, personal email, LinkedIn URL, company name, company website, mobile phone, work phone, title (some fields are used in pairs to ensure uniqueness)
- Leads: name, email, personal email, LinkedIn URL, company name, company website, mobile phone, work phone, title (some fields are used in pairs to ensure uniqueness)
- Partial Lead Enrichment: If an exact contact cannot be matched for a lead, any available company data is used to derive a company match, to assist in routing and prioritization, including email domain, company website, country, company name (some fields are used in pairs to ensure uniqueness)
You can also include any field in this file that you want to be returned on the record, such as a CRM identifier that may make it easier to load data into another system. All fields provided will be returned to you, along with your updated data.
Configuring Your Job
Importing Your File
Navigate to Enrich Data > Custom Enrichment and click "New Job" to get started.
Then, prepare your file import:
- Give your job a name
- Choose what type of data you are enriching. The difference between contacts and leads is in the type of data returned. Contact data will return only contact-specific fields, while lead data will return fields for both the contact and their associated company. The more robust data is typically used in cases where you are looking to populate a record that is not yet associated with a known company.
- Upload your CSV file.
Mapping Your Fields
There are two ways to map fields.
- Manually map your fields and writeback options specific to this job. Learn more below.
- Copy mappings from a previous job. If you routinely pull data from the same source and your input files always look the same, you can reapply the settings from a similar job by choosing that job from the dropdown and clicking the copy icon. From there, you can also update those settings further.
To manually map your fields, you must consider three things: the data needed to match; the data you want to get filled or updated; how you want to receive that data back. You can match data without enriching it, if you want, so it is best to map all available fields to ensure the best matching.
- Map the available SalesIntel fields to your csv field. SalesIntel will auto-map your fields in some cases. Please check any auto-mapped fields for accuracy. Mapping your fields does not inherently return this data in your final file, but it ensures that the data is available for matching to the SalesIntel database.
Indicate how you would like data returned for this field:
Skip: No data will be returned and the input is used only to match
Append: Data will be written back to your original column, only if that field was empty for that record
Overwrite: Data will be written back to your original column AND any existing data will be overwritten with SalesIntel's data
New Column: All data will be placed in a new column added to your file. In this case, you will be able to directly compare new and old values yourself. Only values that changed/were added will show in the new column. If SalesIntel data matches your pre-existing data, no data is shown. If there is no pre-existing data or data was not mapped, all SalesIntel data will show
- Name any new columns. You can specify a custom name or accept the default.
There are three disposition fields that are provided as new columns on all jobs:
- Attempted Enrichment Disposition - this field will tell you if the record matches to SalesIntel or not
- Salesintel Accuracy Tier - this field will provide accuracy level of the matched record. Data is only provided for Human Verified and Email Verified matches.
- Has Changed Jobs (contacts only) - this field will indicate if the contact changed companies from the role that you know them at in your file. The record is not updated in the main enrichment file; a second file will be provided for you to download, allowing you to determine how that information should be handled by your CRM.
Adding Technographics
For company and lead-style contact jobs, you will also see a toggle to Include Technographics with your mappings. Turning this on will add tech stack data to your job, but you'll need to select the technologies to include first. To select technologies, go to the Quick Action Menu and choose Technographics under Specify Your Settings.
There are two ways to add technographic details:
- Individual selection allows you to choose products, vendors, or subcategories individually. Each selection will be written back to HubSpot as a true/false (yes/no) value and requires an individual checkbox field type. This option is best if you have a small set of very specific products of interest. This option can also be used to include technographics when you export data from searches.
Answers the question: “Does this company use HubSpot?”
- Aggregated by Subcategory allows you to choose a specific type of product. Each selection will be written back to HubSpot as a text value and requires an individual text field type. One or more products for each subcategory will be written back, depending on the company’s usage of that technology. This option is not available for exports at this time.
Answers the question: “What CRM does this company use?”
Once you have selected the technographics of interest and turned on the Include Technographics option in your mappings, you can choose how to write these back to your file. If you do not make a choice, they will not be included. Unless you need to match these to an existing field in your file, New Column is the best selection.
You are now ready to start the job! You will need to wait for file upload to complete in order to proceed. Depending on the size of your file and your Internet connection, this could take several minutes. Do not close this tab or navigate away.
Your Completed Job
You'll receive an email when your enrichment job is complete. Depending on the size of your file and the number of other jobs in queue, this can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. Once your job is ready, you can download it from the jobs table.
You may also have a second file, if you have run a contact job and any records have a job change (move to a new company). In this case, the contact record at the new company is written to this second file and the original record is flagged as a changed job.
To review what occurred during your enrichment task, access the report by selecting the job from the job table.
The left side of the report shows your overall match rate, broken down by accuracy tier. Only your human verified and email verified (for contacts and leads) matches are eligible for enrichment.
The right side of the report further breaks down those human or email verified matches based on the updates provided:
- Fill missing: The number of matches where only empty fields could be updated
- Updated existing: The number of matches where only fields with existing data could be updated
- Fill and update: The number of matches where both empty fields and existing fields could be updated
- Already up-to-date: The number of matches where nothing needs updating
The total available records is the sum of 1, 2, and 3 above – all records where something could be updated.
By clicking on the link “View enrichment details by field”, you can also see the individual fields that will be updated, overwritten, or skipped, as well as possible additional data that is available should you map more fields. In this example, the job level field is not mapped, but SalesIntel has 376 records with this information. Mapping this field in the future will get you access to this data.
